$1,000,000 in Cash Up For Grabs in the First Ever DOTA 2 Tournament!

The International - First Ever Dota 2 Tournament

I know there’s a lot more to work say about the recently concluded MLG at Anaheim, however, I just can’t keep my mouth shut after knowing the $1,000,000.00 in effing prize money for the winning team! That’s SIX (6) zeros! Just for the winning DOTA 2 team! As the popular DOTA in-game puts it, HOLY SH!T!

This prize money alone takes pro-gaming to a whole new level with this sum being the largest EVER to be given to a winning team! That’s $200,000 per team member if there are just 5 of them (although most have a lot more to train against with). Valve obviously wants all heads to be turning on to their “somewhat” new game come August 17-21 at the Cologne, Germany Gamescom.

Valve calls the tournament, “The International”. They have taken the liberty to invite 16 of the world’s best teams to back up the name. The lucky ones who made the short list are as follows:

  1. GGnet (European)
  2. MYM (Denmark)
  3. NA’Vi (Ukraine)
  4. CCM (China)
  5. LGD (China)
  6. TyLoo (China)
  7. OK.Nirvana.Int (European)
  8. Moscow 5 (Russia)
  9. MiTH-Trust (Thailand)
  10. EHOME (China)
  11. StarsBoBa (Vietnam)
  12. OK.Nirvana.cn (China)
  13. Nevo (Denmark)
  14. Scythe.SG (Singapore)
  15. MUFC (Malaysia)
  16. Mineski.Infinity (Philippines)

The event itself will be broadcasted in 4 languages (English, Russian, German, Chinese) for everyone to see DOTA 2 played at the highest level this planet can offer for the first time.

“The International is the first public Dota 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game,” said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. “I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary.”

Did I say $1,000,000.00 goes to the winning team already?
