Capcom Unity, the blog where all pro gaming fans of Capcom’s fighting games hangout, has revealed thier pick for the greatest moment in this years Evolution 2011.
We’ve all seen Moment #37 of EVO 2004 where Daigo Umehara unleashes “The Beast” on Justin Wong, but this years moment surpasses it. Instead of Daigo, this years moment belongs to a South Korean player Chung-gon Lee, A.K.A. “Poongko“, and his feat is nothing short of incredible. As we all know Daigo is a pretty good player, playing as his new main Yun in Super Street Fighter IV. But when Poongko, a well known pro gamer who’s known for taking huge risks, stepped up to fight using his main Seth, he risked all just to take a shot at “The Beast.
That’s when Poongko literally took out Daigo in an amazing show of skill and determination. And the kicker is that Poongko defeated Daigo without getting hit himself, a “perfect” match. Poongko even managed to give Daigo’s fighter a Dizzy (when a character is stunned), which made the crowd roar in a wave of sound so loud, you couldn’t even call it hype anymore. It’s too bad that Poongko didn’t make it to the top (he was eliminated later on), but knowing that you have the skills to get “perfect” on one of the best fighting game pro gamers is a validation of all the hard work he’s ever put into playing professionally.
You can guess that during this time the crowd was on thier feet, watching at the epic action unfolding. Even watchers on the internet were fully into the hype, although they wish they were there at EVO 2011 (I share the same sentiment, why did I have to move from Las Vegas!?). It’s Pro Gaming at it’s finest.

And keep an eye out for next year, when Evolution 2012 happens. It’s sure to be an Earth shattering experience (figuratively and literally)!
