Scheduled to come out by this December, Sega announced its intent on releasing Yakuza 5 for the PlayStation 3 console, making it the latest addition into Sega’s Yakuza-themed game titles.
A combination third-person, drama and action-themed game, the new Yakuza 5 features five major cities in Japan as locations, with five main protagonists driving the game’s overall flow and course.
As an ongoing series, Yakuza 5 promises to be the biggest, in terms of the locations the game title features. While previous versions only focused on one location, Kabukicho Tokyo’s real life red light district, the new Yakuza 5 will highlight locations in Sapporo, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka and Tokyo.
The series, given its overall inclinations and themes, has been likened with the Grand Theft Auto series by Rockstar Games, and like the GTA Series, Yakuza 5 brings players into the world of Japan’s longest running crime syndicate, with breaking the law being a part of the game’s gameplay factors.
Last year, Sega gathered information from the series’ fans, polling them as to which city would be great to feature in the new game. Much to the surprise of fans, all the cities were included in the new title.
Of late, Sega’s top selling PlayStation 3 games are all Yakuza-themed games.
Last year’s Yakuza game, Yakuza: Dead Souls, was delayed with its release (released on March 11), coming after the tsunami and earthquake natural disaster which happened in Japan.
The new Yakuza 5 features local celebrities as voice actors, and promises to be the most engaging, most action packed, and most exciting of all of Sega’s Yakuza game titles.
