Poker is a card game played by two or more players and where the object of the game is to win the pot, which is the sum of all the bets made during a hand. There are many different poker variants but the basic principles are the same. The game starts with all the players placing a forced bet, which is either an ante or a blind bet. Once the cards have been shuffled and cut (the player to the dealer\u2019s right usually cuts), a series of betting intervals start with one person being given the privilege or obligation to place a bet. Each player then has the option to call, raise or fold his or her hand.<\/p>\n
Once the first betting round is over, the dealer deals three additional cards on the table that everyone can use. This is known as the flop and is the second betting round.<\/p>\n
At this stage, most people will have to decide whether to continue playing their hand and risk losing all of their money or to fold. The dealer will then add another community card, which is called the turn and is the third betting round.<\/p>\n
After the final betting round, all players reveal their cards and the highest poker hand wins the pot. A winning hand must consist of at least one pair and five distinct cards. High cards break ties.
