These funds are then used to fund a variety of programs, from public school systems to community colleges. Despite this decline in popularity, lotteries remain popular with the general public and have strong support from specific constituencies, such as convenience store operators (who serve as the most common vendors for the games); lottery suppliers (whose large contributions to state political campaigns are widely reported); and teachers, in states where lottery revenues are earmarked for their schools.
